Week 13: Passing the Torch!

Thanks to everyone who joined me as I blogged my way through three months of maternity leave! Unfortunately, the business of getting paid not to work ends tomorrow. As a result, I will be turning over the blog reins to Gabe "Man Month" Kruse. I'm not sure what direction he will be taking the publication (he says darker and a lot more extreme), but I have a feeling it will be interesting if nothing else! Anyway, on to the happenings of Week 13. We were able to spend a lot of time outside, which is new for us since it has been cold for the majority of my time off work. Colin was content to just sit in my lap or lay on a blanket on the deck in the backyard for a long time, which was wonderful for me. We also went for lots of walks, including to meet Beth and Ellie for lunch one day. And we obviously weren't the only ones enjoying the warm weather!
Another new thing this week is that Colin is getting VERY close to turning over from his tummy to his back. (Teaser for the week 14 blog - it may or may not have happened today!) Although he didn't quite make it, he had a lot of fun trying... ...and at one point even looked like might skip rolling over and move right on to doing the worm instead!

He'll get it soon! In the meantime, he's having a great time checking out the handsome guy in the mirror.

On Friday we made a quick trip to the doctor's office to make sure a little diaper issue was no big deal (all is good), and the nurse confirmed what our backs have been telling us since his 8 week appointment - COLIN IS HEAVY. He weighed in at 17 pounds. The doctor couldn't even resist telling a weight joke - How can you tell if Colin is hungry? If he's awake. Very clever, doc. I don't know, I mean, do these pictures really scream big baby??

We ended the week with a great Saturday. Rebecca came over so that she could actually see the little guy awake for the first time ever. And, against all odds, that teeny tiny girl was able to hold Colin and stand at the same time...

And thanks to Rebecca, we now have a second "family" picture.

On Saturday night, Gabe and I hired our very first babysitter and headed out for dinner, drinks and basketball with Jamie and Bill. I was a little nervous to leave, but the woman made me feel really comfortable, and we somehow backed out of the driveway and headed to the bar. We had a great, baby-free night! In fact, we had so much fun that we decided to skip our 10 mile race the next morning. (Yeah, it's becoming a classic Kruse move. Oh well. We really do have good intentions when we sign up for these things...)

I couldn't think of a better way to end my phase of the blog than with a few goofy Colin faces from the week!

Okay, the torch has been officially passed to these two troublemakers - have fun boys!!
