Weeks 28 and 29

What week are we on? On that note, what day is it? I know we're late on the blog, but I really don't have any idea how late. Ah, details. The kid's 6 months old - at least I've got that part down. Or should I be saying he's 7 months old now?? Well, what I do know for sure is that he laughed, ate, napped and had his diaper changed today, and now we're bloggin...the important things in life! We've got a little catching up to do since we took a trip to Denver a couple weekends ago. Not only did Colin get to see all our fun Denver friends, but he spent the weekend with Grandpa and Grandma McGinnis - yahoo!!!! Boy did we ever have a good time. Before I begin my description of Colin: Plane Version, let's take a moment to flash back to our first plane experiences with the little man between 2 weeks to 2 months old... So peaceful. The biggest worry we had was whether we would be able to get him to stay awake long enough to eat while the plane was taking off and landing. And, of course, whether we would actually be able to convince each and every passenger to use hand sanitizer. Actually, our Denver trip started off in the same peaceful way... The second we got on the plane, however, those quiet moments were a thing of the past, replaced in full force by this guy (these pictures were actually all taken in the span of about 7 seconds, which provides a window into what a 4 hour mile-high experience was like with this wild animal):
On a positive note, we did discover a few things that at least temporarily turned down the volume of the if-you-try-to-make-me-sleep-right-now-I'll-scream-even-louder boy: playing with trash (like a granola bar wrapper), staring in a very creepy, wide-eyed and open-mouthed way at our across the aisle plane neighbor, trying to smack everything and everyone in sight, Benadryl, and watching TV and listening to headphones.
We ended up surviving and (surprisingly) not getting jumped by any of the other passengers on the way out of the airport. Wild Boy greeted his grandparents at the baggage claim area, and off we went to the hotel for the night. Grandma and Grandpa were nice (crazy) enough to volunteer to take the monster so that we could sleep in a little. They set up a nice area right next to their bed so they could hear him as soon as he started squawking at his normal 6:30 am wake up time (4:30 Colorado time!). Too bad for Grandma and Grandpa, Colin never adjusted to the local time zone...
We had a blast for the rest of the weekend. Gabe and I spent a lot of time with the Dirsts and the Gloecklers, with hats, booze and bikes being the major themes of the weekend:
Meanwhile, Colin spent lots of time with Grandma and Grandpa McGinnis. He could barely believe how lucky he was to be having so much fun and to be able to see them for so many days in a row! They played games, took walks outside, ate yummy meals, sang songs, read books, and were just plain silly together.
The whole gang spent one really fun day at the pool together. Colin was a little hesitant at first, but then he got very comfortable kicking and splashing around in the water.
What a great weekend. Then, just a few short days after we got back from Denver, Colin had to pinch himself when his Grandma McGinnis showed up for a visit in Alexandria! I guess we'll kick off the description of the fun we've been having with Grandma with this trippy picture that oddly has all four of us in it...
Besides taking weird pictures, Colin and Grandma are having so much fun. They are reading lots of books, playing patty cake, playing with the dogs, taking walks, singing songs, eating new foods, and learning to babble.

Colin is so excited to have his Grandma here that he's being kind of a show off. Here's a video of him busting out a head banging routine (or does he have water in his ear?) in front of his favorite lady:

Thanks to Grandma, I got a LOT done this weekend, including running a bunch of errands, working, making and freezing 2-3 months worth of baby food, and sleeping 10 hours on Saturday night! She even snuck into the bathroom and cleaned it while I was sleeping! That tricky Grandma. In other food news, Grandma has introduced Colin to a new thing - lunch! Colin also finished the very last envelope of frozen breast milk (FREEDOM!). And finally, Colin is learning how to pick up little melt-in-your-mouth baby cracker things. As you'll see from the video, this is still very much a work in progress skill...

Another new naughty Colin-ism of late is sticking out his tongue at the camera!
Finally, Colin is not crawling yet, but boy is he ever rocking! Here's a video that shows this little man on a mission to move (with a little help from Grandma)...

My favorite picture from the week, along with two videos of Colin laughing fits. Have a great week everybody!
