The main event of this week...GRANDMA MCGINNIS ARRIVED!! Gabe really hit it on the head when he said that the Kruse fam was in dire need of a recharge, and boy did we ever get one with her help! The woman doesn't rest. She did constant laundry (washing, drying AND folding), washed our wood floors on her hands and knees, cleaned our (gross) bathroom from top to bottom, made dinners, sewed and patched several items in Gabe's wardrobe, cleaned up dog puke and baby puke in the nursery (double gross), cleaned the kitchen non-stop, made coffee every single morning, vacuumed the entire house, and probably 30 other things I'm forgetting!
And I didn't even mention all the time she spends with Colin. Here are a few fun Grandma-Colin moments from the week (including one where Colin is wearing his new Las Vegas outfit!)....
Colin will definitely miss his Grandma McGinnis when she leaves. She takes him on LOTS of walks around the house, talks to him for hours, feeds him in the middle of the night, rocks him back to sleep so Karen and Gabe can sleep a little longer, changes his diapers, and helps cut his nails and give him baths. No wonder she can make him smile more than anyone else in the house!
We kicked off Grandma McGinnis' visit with a dinner with Lisa and Greg. We found out that night that Greg is a baby whisperer - there will be lots of babysitting requests in his future!
Once Monday hit, we started going like crazy! Grandma watched the baby while Karen went to bootcamp on three mornings and while Gabe played basketball and hit the weight room on the other two mornings - yahoo, we're active again!! We also got lots of errands done, like running to the grocery store, Walgreens, the fabric store, getting the oil changed, visiting the chiropractor and even stopping for a cup of joe at Starbucks! We went on lots of walks around the neighborhood. During one walk, Grandma, Karen, Lisa and Colin got to visit Beth and three-month old Ellie. Colin just loves older women!
We also ventured to Capitol Hill to get lunch with Jamie and Isaac and then spent the afternoon at Lisa's apartment. Later in the week, Lisa spent a full day at our house (even after working all night the night before!), showing off her wicked 5 S's skills.
This weekend was a blast too! On Friday, Karen got to celebrate Adam's birthday in Georgetown, and then the whole crew headed to Mr. Yogato to celebrate Sabrina's birthday the next night. Colin's Mr. Yogato swag (paired with a kick ass jump suit from Amie - thank you!!) was a hit! Karen and Grandma were also able to have some girl-only time, with a very successful shopping trip (8 pairs of shoes - 3 for Grandma and 5 for Gabe!) and sushi lunch.
To Gabe's chagrin, Grandma and Karen gave cloth diapers a try this week. They are currently on probation, as we had a few too many "wet" moments at first. We seem to have found a good system though - if we can just convince Daddy Kruse to get on board!
Colin has continued to entertain us with new funny faces this week, although he occasionally tries to hide them from his paparazzi mother like he is in the last picture...
He's also making some of the same funny (and tired) faces his daddy makes...
All in all, we had a fantastic week!
